General Deposit Policy:
The Full Fee for any service is due whenever work begins.
As with all health care professions there are no guarantees for any particular result. This is especially true for Dental Aesthetics (“Cosmetic Dentistry”). Only in-house credit may apply for changes in treatment plan. The Patient's ability to transfer this credit to another patient is determined on a case by case basis. In rare cases in house credit, financial assistance, or courtesy fee deductions maybe withdrawn for a patient's violation of the "patient standards policy" (available upon request), or as determined by our Standard Office Procedure (SOP) Manual.
Diagnostic Wax-up Policy:
What are "Diagnostic Wax-ups?"
Dental Aesthetic cases require diagnostic records and completion of a comprehensive aesthetic analysis. This requires a great deal of effort in taking photos, making a minimum of 4 Impressions, taking a "Face Bow Transfer" measurement of the relationship between the jaws and the hinge point of the mouth, fabrication of Mylar vacuum formed trays to help prepare and temporize the teeth, then completion of a composite model to demonstrate the finished case.

A "New York Minute" passes even faster than one thinks. Please allow plenty of time to account for traffic. |

Late, No Show, and Cancellation Policy: This policy is strictly enforced! Please help me to keep my schedule on time for your benefit; as well as others. I prefer to give each and every patient as much time as is possible during their appointment. In this way we can fairly provide low volume with high quality service; which is the benefit of a private practice over a clinic.
Without adequate time I am less able to treat my patients to the very best of my abilities. I consider a compromise of quality as un-acceptable, and therefore still find it necessary to give even a late patient a full hour. When you are late service to everyone else scheduled for the rest of the day becomes delayed as well.
For these reasons, our policy requires your appointment to be automatically rescheduled if you are 20 minutes or more late. This policy is strictly enforced.
In addition in our New York office if you are consistently 15 minutes or more late we require a minimum $75 per 1/2 hour late fee. Two or more no-shows (in excess of 20 minutes) per year are subject to a $150 per hour No-Show Fee.
In our Portland office upon the first missed appointment without cancellation we charge a $45 No-Show fee per appointment. Upon the 3rd missed appointment we will not be able to schedule further without special consideration.
We regret that we reserve the right to discharge any patient from our practice who does not show up for their appointments 3 or more times; without calling to cancel or reschedule.
Of course there are always circumstances beyond your control, and we will make exceptions for special circumstances. Personal emergencies are considered excluded from this policy on a case by case basis.
Upon the 2nd no-show you may be required to provide a credit card number on file to secure your appointment with a deposit. You can easily avoid these fees by informing us of your need to reschedule at least 3 hours prior to the appointment time.

My philosophy concerning Estimates & Second Opinions... |
|
There are as many types of estimates as there are treatment plans. |
|
Consultations, and Fair Estimate Policy: I do not give estimates without obtaining diagnostic records, and carefully evaluating a case. Nor will I review estimates from other Dentists to beat their fees; as this may lead to an ethical dilemma and compromise of your care. If you want me to review someone else's treatment plan, I will try my best to do so with an objective opinion. I would welcome the opportunity in giving you the confidence to return to a good Dentist.
Consultation Rates I do not believe that "Free Consultations" are always truly free, and therefore charge a minimum $75 per 1/2 hour for consultations. Every Doctor has an overhead cost that must be met, and this minimum help to keep overhead costs down for other patients. The cost of X-Rays or other diagnostic procedures are not included in consultation fees. Non-treatment dental related consultations are charged per hour on a case-by-case basis.
Beware of Ethical Conflicts of Interest- Are "Free Consultations" Really Free? In my opinion, asking for a second opinion with "Free Consultation" is like asking a spider if I can jump on your web. The answer is , of course, but the question is -- will I get stuck? There is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion, and often this is preferred for complicated cases. But if you feel that you need a second opinion, then insist that you pay for it. In this way you have established yourself as expecting an unbiased opinion.
This is especially true in aesthetic dental cases, when your Doctor has already treatment planned, prepared, and temporized your teeth. The most difficult part of your treatment is complete, and any offers by others to finish that case cheaper is only because there is a lot less work to do. I myself only accept cases such as this after I have discussed the case with the Dentist who started the case. Beware of those who would be quick to criticize the previous Dentist without obvious potential gain. Sometimes differences in treatment planning is really due to a difference of opinion, not because there is only one right way to do something.
Dental Decisions based upon Knowledge: Explaining the facts honestly and clearly is important to me. I believe that a good Doctor makes an effort to teach his patients about their health care in a fair and honest manner. Did you know that the word "Doctor" means teacher?
A Doctor should always be able to give a reasonable explanation as to why something is the way that it is. And teaching the patient helps the Doctor to work out the process of his treatment plan. I believe that if you can not explain your diagnosis, then perhaps you do not know the answer. Teaching the patient about their care instills confidence in your treatment plan and encourages proficiency.
Our Commitment to Satisfaction of Service: We have a Family Tradition of Dentistry that goes back to 1941 when my Great Uncle William Wong first served as a United States Army Dental Officer in China during world war II. Since then there have been 12 Dentist in our family including my father and myself. In addition, my family members have served in every branch of the military to show our appreciation for this country, and for those who have sacrificed for all of us.
That family tradition was earned from the most humble beginnings; of which we always try to remember as a way of life. We strive to keep that family tradition with a commitment to service to the best of our abilities. If you are happy with our Practice please tell everyone! But of course if you are un-happy with our service, please let me know. I will make every effort to correct the problem and not let it happen again.
